Shedares Empowerment

SHEDARES EMPOWERMENT is a non-profit organization committed to opening the doors of outdoor sports to more women.

At the heart of our mission is the “Pass the Pole” — a one-of-a-kind program built on the cycle of learning, growing, and giving back. Each new skier begins as a learner, earning her instructor certification and building real teaching experience. She then returns as a mentor, guiding the next generation of women on their journey — creating a powerful chain of support.

With every handoff, we envision more women breaking into the industry, reshaping the culture of outdoor sports into one that is more diverse, inclusive, and empowering for women everywhere.

  • “Pass the Pole" is a mountain journey of growth and empowerment, designed specifically for women.

Each year, from September through October, we accept applications from new participants. Those who are selected will take part in pre-season training to prepare for the upcoming snow season. Throughout the winter, participants engage in systematic development of their skiing or snowboarding skills while also learning fundamental teaching methods. When prepared, they will take the examination to earn certification as ski or snowboard instructors.

After gaining professional experience working in the industry, they return to the program as mentors. In this role, they guide the next generation of learners, passing on not only skills but also courage and ongoing support.

As a non-profit initiative, we charge a registration fee to cover basic operational costs and a deposit to secure participation. The deposit is refunded in full upon completion of the program.

  • Yes. Participants who already have a skiing or snowboarding foundation and wish to refine their skills while learning to teach can typically complete the full “Pass the Pole” cycle in two seasons: the first as a learner, and the second as a mentor.

For complete beginners, the timeline will be longer. We don’t encourage anyone to rush certification or over-practice at the risk of injury. Each person’s progress and learning pace will vary.

Earning an instructor certificate is only the beginning. We hope every woman in “Pass the Pole” continues to grow and thrive long-term in the industry.
